Phoenix, Arizona is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful cities in the country. It is brimming with unique people, tight-knit communities, job opportunity and a wealth of potential. In today’s day and age, cities need this and more in order to thrive. Most cities are known for distinct characteristics and traits (LA’s entertainment mecca, New York’s finance district, Pittsburgh’s manufacturing district), and although Phoenix is a well-established city, it hasn’t exactly found its niche — until now.

According to multiple reports, Phoenix is becoming something of a haven for tech companies. Traditionally, when thinking of technology startup towns, one thinks of Silicon Valley, the city that started it all. But lately, many startups are realizing that it is not a necessity to call Silicon Valley your home. This is precisely why Atlanta has become a tech startup town, and now Phoenix is on the rise. According to a report from AZCentral, the amount of tech startups in the city has quadrupled from 2012 to 2015.

More specifically, the city has experienced an influx of tech-based opportunity. From 2012 to 2017, the number of tech startups in Phoenix has grown from 67 to 260, and the number of jobs has exploded past 7,000 positions. This is all tremendous news, but why is Phoenix becoming the next big thing in tech? It mainly has to do with the sense of community surrounding the area.

In the same article, Christine Mackay, Phoenix Community and Economic Development Director, states that the city has a sense of community that naturally lends itself to these younger tech startups.

“What people are really grabbing onto is a sense of community,” says Mackay.

The city’s energy and beauty is also a determining factor in a startups decision to choose Phoenix as its homebase.

“That’s more of the vibrancy they’re looking for,” she says.

As someone who has lived in Phoenix for quite sometime, I completely agree. The sense of community that has been created in Phoenix is noticeable and is very attractive. And this is exactly what we are trying to push even further with the development of the Ro2 Project.

True North Studios’ Ro2 Project is a new development plan that is aimed at revitalizing Phoenix’s arts district. It will feature multiple different venues and locations for the city’s artists to display their talents, but it will also serve as a great tech startup hub. We want the Ro2 Project to build upon Phoenix’s already stellar community, while also enticing some of the latest and greatest tech startups in the country. With the office buildings that we have planned, I think it will do just that.

I am very excited for Phoenix’s future, and the future of the Ro2 Project.
